TRAI Important Updates on DLT & SMS communication in India

Dear Recruiters,

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated the new DLT framework to manage commercial communication in India and is aimed at curbing the problem of Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). Hence has brought in strict regulation in SMS communication.

As per the TRAI update, customers can send SMS only with pre-approved SMS formats and this will be enforced from 8th March 2021 onwards.

To adhere to TRAI rules, we will be removing the Open text & introduce the pre-approved SMS formats for sending SMS. That said, the SMS traffic coming from open text/wrong templates on DLT will be dropped. So it becomes compulsory for all of us to move forward with Pre-approved SMS formats.

Please note, as a result of this update, your earlier saved SMS templates will no longer be applicable for future use, so will be deprecated on or before 8th March 2021.

This article intends to educate our recruiters on the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) implementation as prescribed by the TRAI for sending domestic SMS traffic within India.

To act in accordance with the TRAI’s new TCCCP Regulation, Teamlease has made certain changes on the platform to adhere to TRAI rules.

We kindly request your support to move forward on the next phase of integration to restrict Unsolicited Commercial Communication.
